Care Uniquely For You

My approach

Reaching out for support takes courage, and I understand that not just professionally. I understand it personally as well.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent more than 20 years as a nurse, caring for individuals in their homes across Milwaukee. I walked alongside people navigating chronic illness, pain, and the quiet, often unseen impact of trauma. In those spaces, I witnessed something powerful again and again: what we carry emotionally lives in the body. When it goes unspoken or unsupported, it can shape our health, our relationships, and how we move through the world.

That understanding is at the heart of my work today.

My approach is grounded in the belief that healing happens when you are seen fully. Not only for the symptoms you’re experiencing, also for the life you’ve lived, the systems you’ve navigated, and the strength it has taken to get here. I strive to create a space that is steady, non-judgmental, and deeply respectful of your story, welcoming individuals of all identities, cultures, abilities, and income levels.

I integrate traditional therapeutic practices with a whole-person lens, recognizing the connection between mental and physical health. I support individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, relationship challenges, LGBTQIA+ experiences, and chronic health conditions, including chronic pain. Together, we will move at a pace that feels right for you, building practical tools while also making space for deeper healing.

You do not have to carry everything on your own.

Whether you prefer in-person sessions, virtual appointments, or a blend of both, I offer flexible options, including early morning telehealth sessions beginning at 6 a.m., so we can meet you where you are, in every sense of the word.

Meet Laurie

  • Laurie Reisener, RN, LPC-IT

Laurie Reisener brings a rare depth of experience to her work as a therapist, shaped by more than two decades as a registered nurse and her continued commitment to caring for the whole person.

Her nursing career was rooted in home-based care, serving individuals and families across Milwaukee, often in communities facing significant barriers to access. In these settings, Laurie was not only a clinician, she was also a witness to the realities of lived trauma, systemic inequities, and the resilience of those she served. This work profoundly shaped her understanding of the connection between physical health and emotional well-being and inspired her transition into counseling.

Today, Laurie integrates her medical background with evidence-based therapeutic approaches to offer care that is grounded and deeply human. She works with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, identity exploration, relationship challenges, and the complexities of chronic illness and pain. Her approach is compassionate, collaborative, and centered on helping each person reconnect with their own capacity for healing and growth.

Laurie is especially committed to creating an inclusive and affirming space for all, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, cultural background, physical ability, or socioeconomic status. She believes access to care is essential and that everyone deserves to feel seen, supported, and respected.

She holds a Master of Professional Counseling from Concordia University of Wisconsin and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Alverno College. Her professional experience includes work with Pathways Counseling Center, Shorehaven Behavioral Health, iCare/Humana, and Curative Care Network. She remains engaged in ongoing learning so she can continue offering the highest standard of care to those she serves.

A lifelong Wisconsin resident, Laurie feels deeply connected to the Milwaukee community and is honored to walk alongside those seeking greater balance, understanding, and well-being.

Outside of her practice, Laurie enjoys biking, hiking, cooking, live music, and spending time with friends. She shares her home with Maslow, her Sheepadoodle, a steady and grounding companion who offers a daily reminder of the importance of care, rest, and connection.
